This is my audio piece.
Artist Statement
I was told to create audio art but I couldn't make music. Rather than make a story or a walkthrough, I chose to try to make a feeling. "4:33 i think i am somewhere i should not be," is my version of the sound of nervousness, specifically a sort of I-should-probably-leave nervousness. i didn't want it to sound like the typical horror movie or thriller type of noises you hear in the background, partially because (a) we hear a lot of it and it has become predictable and (b) I wasn't quite sure where to find the noises. This piece was designed to sound like the feeling of subtle dread, but the type of dread you may gaslight yourself into ignoring. This was relatively difficult as I had limited sounds to work with; I challenged myself to only use the sounds that were in the class file. The noises in the file at first seemed varied, but after I had listened to the hundredth sound file or so, I began to realize that I would have a much harder time using entire sounds, and would instead have to use much smaller increments of the files to get the noise I wanted or the feeling I was trying to evoke. Some of the sounds in the piece are very small clips of mundane noises while others are much fuller versions of the clips.
This was done using Adobe Audition.
